About Us

Thinkers welcome.

We think Jesus is the most compelling person who ever lived, and we would love to walk with you in learning more about who he is and what it means to follow him.

Why Is Jesus compelling?

Jesus is the center of a remarkable story of love, tragedy, and redemption; a story that begins with a loving God who designed this world to live in relationship with him.

Despite that love, all of us have rejected God and preferred to live for ourselves. That path promised freedom, but it delivered only enslavement. This is where Jesus takes center stage. God resolved to heal the relationship through Jesus Christ. Jesus voluntarily took upon himself the penalty of all our sin and died in our place. Three days later he rose again with the authority to pardon each of us and arrange our adoption to become God’s children.

That is the true freedom we all desire but can never achieve for ourselves. Jesus is compelling because he offers to bring us into this wonderful story of redemption.

Our Values

Emmanuel Anglican Church exists to see, describe, and reflect the beauty of Jesus Christ for the flourishing of New York City.

WE PURSUE THIS BY:

  • Trusting and obeying the Scriptures

  • Relying on the Holy Spirit in prayer, worship and all of life

  • Pursuing character and community formed by the Gospel

  • Sharing the Gospel with New York City and beyond

  • Serving our neighborhoods, city, and the world

  • Planting new churches

What we believe

We rejoice in the gospel of God through which we have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. We proclaim and submit to the unique and universal Lordship of Jesus Christ. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God written and to contain all things necessary for salvation.

We uphold the four Ecumenical Councils and the three historic Creeds [and] the Thirty-nine Articles. We rejoice in our Anglican sacramental and liturgical heritage. We uphold the classic Anglican Ordinal as an authoritative standard of clerical orders. We gladly accept the Great Commission of the risen Lord.

We are mindful of our responsibility to be good stewards of God's creation, to uphold and advocate justice in society, and to seek relief and empowerment of the poor and needy. We are committed to the unity of all those who know and love Christ and to building authentic ecumenical relationships.

We celebrate the God-given diversity among us...acknowledge freedom in secondary matters...[and] pledge to work together to seek the mind of Christ on issues that divide us.

  • Emmanuel is a member of the vibrant worldwide Anglican Communion. Anglicanism, the third largest association of Christian churches in the world, has its heritage in the Church of England. We are connected to the wider Anglican Communion through oversight from a bishop in the Anglican Diocese of the Living Word, a missionary diocese of the Anglican Church in North America.

Emmanuel holds to the classical Anglican tradition. Our beliefs are summarized here:
